What if we thought about parenting differently?

Lady Rabi'a Academy is a suhbah for the journey of parenthood, offering space to question, learn and encounter new ways of thinking about what it means to raise another human being.

The Amanah

Your child is not the main project.

Most parenting advice begins with the child. It tells you how to stop the tantrum, fix the back-chat, manage the attitude, get them to listen, and restore some kind of order before everyone in the house loses the will to continue. This space begins somewhere else.

Allah placed you in your child's life as their first teacher — not of letters or numbers, but of what it means to be a good human being. What they repeatedly see in you becomes part of what they learn to call normal.

Children do not learn from what we tell them. They learn from the emotional tone, reactions, and patterns they experience around them every day. Behaviour management may quiet things down for a moment, but it does not form the child in the way daily example does. Who you are while parenting carries more weight than any strategy you use.

Inner-state work is not a small side project. It is generational work. Our children will carry what we give them into their own lives — their friendships, their marriages, their faith, and the way they parent their own children. That is the weight of your example.

The foundation

Before you take guidance from someone, it is worth knowing what has shaped their thinking.

The work at Lady Rabi'a Academy is informed by Islamic scholarship, psychology and qualitative research. These are not decorative references or passing interests. They are bodies of knowledge I have spent years studying, questioning and bringing into conversation with one another.

The classical Islamic sciences

Tazkiyah al-nafs, legal theory, Qur'anic exegesis — studied formally.

Psychology

The study of human thought, behaviour and development, grounded in established psychological research.

Qualitative research

Master's-level research into how belief becomes ordinary life — not theory alone, but lived practice.

Inside the suhbah

One theme. Four weeks.

This is not a parenting course in the usual sense. It is a structured suhbah for the journey of parenthood. Each month, we take one theme and stay with it long enough to think about it, question it and bring it into our own lives.

There is no library of content waiting for you to browse through and no endless stream of advice to keep up with. There is a path to follow, and you are invited to walk it with intention.

Some of what we encounter will affirm what you already know, some may challenge it, some may be uncomfortable — that is part of the point.

This is a space for learning, reflection and honest engagement with the journey of parenthood.

Week ١

A main voice teaching centred on one theme — one idea to sit with, think through, and begin noticing in your own life.

Week ٢

A written research-based article — where the teaching meets Islamic scholarship, psychology, and careful thinking.

Week ٣

Access to the suhbah — a space for companions to reflect together and learn from each other's successes, struggles and small shifts.

Week ٤

Practical exercises — grounded practices that bring the month's theme into your home.
